The Selwoods were very prominently dispersed in Somerset and Wiltshire Counties throughout history. They were also very religious people. With a name meaning “Large” or “Grand Wood” they also had a reputation to uphold so during the 1100’s the Selwoods embarked on creating some of the most impressive structures man has ever known. They built the Well’s Cathedral in 1180, and 40 years later completed St. Peter’s Abbey in Bath. Next came Salisbury Cathedral where of course the Magna Carta was originally sealed. If you look at our Selwood boards they have a striking resemblance to the footprint of all three Abbey’s built by the Selwoods.
